WRITING YOUR Most people think they have to write their story like a professional, start at the beginning of their life, and write perfectly without any mistakes and perfect grammar. Wrong! If you think this you'll never write your story. Frankly, the biggest obstacle you'll have in writing your life story is eliminating your own doubt that you can actually do it! If you can speak and read - you have what it takes to write your life story. So you can get going quickly in the right direction we give you simple suggestions to get you writing. Follow our golden rules and you can’t go wrong. You want the reader to enjoy your story – don’t you? You don’t want a boring, lifeless book that is full of facts and not much else – do you? In a nutshell, we give you the golden rules to remember when you are actually writing your story. If you were to read nothing else on this subject, these rules (or ideas) form the basis to writing it down. Keep this list handy, you will need to refer to it along the way. |

GETTING STARTED Whether you plan to write, conduct a family history interview or be interviewed, it is important to prepare. We show you how to prepare from the beginning and how to keep your life story project organized and prevent the loss of important information. If properly preserved & organised, it can be passed down or found by family if you become ill or have a sudden accident. |

MEMORY SPARKING QUESTIONS One of the hardest parts of writing your life story is just getting started. This section contains categories and over 900 questions relating to ALL the aspects of your life. The questions act as prompts to capturing your memories and to ensure that you don’t leave anything out. It is set up to make you want to jump right in and get going! And... you can start anywhere you like. Section 6.1 - The Early Years. Who is the oldest person (relative) that you can remember? Was there a chore you really hated doing as a child? What kind of books did you like to read? What did you do for fun as a child? Describe your childhood home. What were your favourite toys? What childhood games did you play? Who did you play them with? What were some of the “old-fashioned” remedies for sickness that you remember your parents using? Do you remember any early childhood birthday parties? Describe what you remember and more........ Section 6.2 – Ancestry, Military Service & Marriage. Including: My Parents, My Parent's Together, Divorce, Brothers & Sisters, Aunts & Uncles, Grandparents, Military Service, Dating, Attraction, My Spouse & Our Marriage, Section 6.3 – My Adult Years.
